The Jefferson Garden Club announces July’s Yard of the Month: the Bob and Kristie Hurley home at 313 S. West Street. Each month for many years the Garden Club has honored homeowners for their efforts to increase the beauty of Jefferson. The Hurleys are pictured with Garden Club member Denise O’Brien Van (left).
The Hurleys have expanded their gardens in recent years. A highlight is their Pink in Bloom garden. Kristie is a breast cancer survivor. “This garden reminds others to remember how precious life is, and to enjoy each new day”. It features a variety of pink perennials, and a bridge built by Bob. Gnome gardens in shady areas leave room for creativity.
Their yard also features Bob’s patriotic garden with a flag pole and Bob’s actual Air Force boots at the base. Bob created a planter from an unwanted wood pallet, blending paint colors and bright annuals. The plants thrive on the south side fence
